Hey guys, I realize I'm late coming to the party here, but I just wanted to say hi and see if you all enjoyed my video (embedded above)?

And pray tell, just WHO is this Unknown Screenwriter? I know I know people who know (!), so I WILL find out soon. :-)

So for now, whomever you are...thanks for the embed!

p.s. Here's my Youtube channel with two more videos. I REALLY hope I get to do more of these, fingers crossed...

The Big Idea even sounds suspiciously similar to High Concept. Must we change what it is called every few years to keep it fresh? (And is this a Big Idea in itself?)

Discuss amongst yourselves.

UNK,

Everyone pays for pitches. The Great American Pitch Fest isn't free. The Fade In Pitch Fests aren't free.

$10 for a pitch is better than cold calling. People in my writer's group have gotten options - paid.

Christian,

Thanks...

Eric,

LOL. I have a list of specific keywords/keyword phrases that I've been building for quite awhile that I use to find all this shit...

M.C.,

First of all, I know IndieClub.com all too well... LOL. None of those posts you cite prove anything... Not saying that the guy they're talking about isn't fucked up...

I have no idea...

As ALWAYS and as a screenwriter, you must perform your due diligence BEFORE submitting a script to ANYONE let alone this particular producer.

As for paying for a pitch... Nope. That's bullshit. I'd sure as hell would never pay someone to hear my pitch but again, that doesn't mean they're fraudulent... I know of other Pitch Masters that do exactly the same thing and they aren't fraudulent... They more or less use the fee to ASSIST in weeding out all the SHIT because trust me...

There's a lotta shit out there.

Thank you for your blog. I enjoy it very much, and the links you uncover. However I have a REAL PROBLEM with the link to the story about veterans pitching a hollywood producer.

I don't blame you, the blogger, for posting a link to Larry Meistrich...after all it was a story from an allegedy reputable news organization, Reuters/Hollywood Reporter. In this case, though there is some really lazy journalism in the story, because if they had done ANY research, the writer would have seen what a scammer this guy and his company, Nehst is.

So in the interest of looking out for other aspiring screenwriters...I say...stay away from this guy. He cannot help your career, he can just take your money.

Here are some links from a worlwide indie filmmaking bulletin board that give you some more information if you don't believe me.

Steven

I'm dealing with Pitch Nehst. The other PordCos I signed releases with have basically the same wording. They are not saying they have a right to your idea, they are saying that you're not the only person with a Zombie script or a SEAL team script.

They can prove, if necessary, when they started the idea like yours but that costs money in legal fees. The amount of frivolous lawsuits is mind-boggling.

Just sign it and if there's a problem, write a better script than theirs.

The controversy over the 'standard agreement' aside -- why would I pay $10 to pitch them my ideas when there are hundreds of production companies I can query for free?

The Fox opportunity is out for me - as most comps are that are announced in the US - because I'm not a citizen.

I'm actually not surprised at the Twitter thing at all. Fanboys arose from YouTube so the opportunity exists from any social networking site.

One actor I am following spent a week or so just making up a story and tweeting it and then talking about needing to change agents as he wasn't getting any work. Even that alone with some adaption would have made the basis for a story.

Certainly I see 'short film' in a lot of material.

But I'm glad to see people enjoying the space creatively.
