Using Google Notebook to outline your screenplay…

I recently stumbled on the following post and thought it could be quite useful to help outline/structure a screenplay as well:

So after reading the above post, I logged into using my account and started playing with it… First of all, it only works with Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers so be aware of that…

Second, it’s pretty damn fast to get started…

Within MINUTES, I had the first act of an idea that’s been kicking around in my head more or less plotted out. What I like about using this method is that you can easily Print, Export to , Rename your outline, and of course, delete it.

Other very useful utilities are being able to change the color of your fonts and the font style… Drag and drop each section to whatever order you want it in… These utilities are very useful when it comes to specific plotpoints that you really want to stand out within your outline…

There’s even a LINK utility… I didn’t use it but I can see where you could link certain keywords/keyword phrases to other web sites or photos online maybe…

Inside your Google Notebook account, there’s even a “Sharing options” link in the upper right hand corner that allows you to email your current outline to someone else… Maybe even a prospective or existing collaborator… In fact, if you don’t yet have a collaborator, you can use the “Sharing options” function to Invite a prospective collaborator.

On top of all this, you can use Google Notebook to create character bios…

Pretty fuckin’ cool.

The best way to get into it is to open up an account and start playing with it. It’s very intuitive and fast. You’ll be outlining in NO TIME.

And this is completely not relevant to the conversation, but I’m listening to SMASHING PUMPKINS while writing and the song DISARM always reminds me of the dangerous Unknown Screenwriter . . .

“The Killer In Me is the Killer In You!”

    But obviously I’ve digressed . . .

I do most of my work in Google documents, except for the final product. That way I can log on to any computer any where at any time and work on my script. Part of my Guerrilla Screenwriting Philosophy. I like Celtx, as well, for this purpose, but DAMN if I can’t get my script to print right in Celtx.

But I’ll give Notebook a spin here.

Pumpkins? Really? I don’t see Unk as having that early 90’s angst mixed with sobering melancholy… if I were to give him a song, I’d think “Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap” by AC/DC. That, or “The Final Countdown” by Europe. I expect to be flamed for that last quip.

Ooo, nice . . . but still, the killer in me, is the killer in you . . .

Then again, there’s always Bel Biv Divo . . .

[...] of the Unknown Screenwriter, his info about the Google Notebook is spot on- intuitive and excellent for outlining. Even the collabrative potential is kinda rad. [...]

    Ann,

It’s taken me 49 years to SHED myself of all the SHIT society, family, and friends, lull you into…

…right before they yank the fuckin’ rug out from under your feet.

Now I chop their hands off… LOL.

I had that script laying around for quite a while and I was logging into the Scribosphere every couple of days trying to help others out a little here and there and I kind of miss it so I figured why not throw it up here.

I didn’t want to mention it… I’d rather make it a “catch me if you can” type of thing.

It’s a great idea, Unk. Kinda circles back to the beginning when I was first getting to know you guys.

I had the benefit of a professional forum when I was learning to write, and I don’t know if I’d be published today without it. I like to think I’m smart. Everyone does. But when the pros spill their guts in an interactive forum as opposed to a book, you just learn so much more.

I think people are primed to learn stuff from hearing and acting, as opposed to dry reading. It’s in our genes to learn through action. I’d like to give back.

Great idea. If there’s a convo where you think I could contribute, give me a holler. I’m online most nights.

Why can’t I EVER include everything I want to say the first time out?

My critique groups runs a live chat we call a Bat-B-Q when someone needs help with a WIP (work in progress). That person, and their book, is put in the hot seat and analyzed to DEATH with booze, wine, whatever.

You CANNOT beat these live chats for energy, synergy,or any other ergy you can think of. You name the problem, we’ve solved it. Of course, we all know and trust each other not to steal ideas…

    Just puttin’ it out there.
