Interesting reading. Especially the one that says studios are screwing themselves with participation deals and the people who actually get the butts in the seats have to settle for a burlap bag and a bowl of soup.
Sure, I like good actors and directors but without the writers, what are they acting in. I guess it’s like Chris Soth says, maybe the WGA should go after one deal at a time.
Maybe that’s one of the things they’re (AMPTP) doing with this strike: cleaning out the closet. Unfortunately as the article said, participation is paid in perpetuity.
I just hope that, in the end, the creative forces behind these tentpoles finally get deals like actors or producers.
Even tripling the rate would only make for about $400M in residuals. One Sony tentpole can make that.
