Another rewrite weekend…
More rewriting… LOL. Thanks to those for the emails asking if I’m still alive.
Still alive and kicking…
Taking a quick break to browse the Scribosphere and found some interesting stuff…
Dave over at Writing On Spec has a great post on the ABCs of Character Development. Definitely worth reading and copying down. This post also goes hand in hand with a post over at $1000 Spielberg — good stuff.
Speaking of Scribosphere.org, there was a great online CHAT event yesterday about HIGH CONCEPT. Lots of good discussion there — check out the chat function when you get a chance… You NEVER KNOW who’s going to be in there talking about screenwriting.
And of course a few interesting screenwriting articles…

I haven’t read through all of the articles, but I read the one on Goldsman getting $4 mil not to fuck up the sequel too badly. I laughed until I cried at that one line: “…to cut and paste shitty Dan Brown dialogue into Final Draft…”
OMG, too fucking funny!
Glad to see you’re alive! Thanks for the post on rewrites – I start my big rewrite next week. Hope to emerge with an even better script at the end of it.
Am just off to read the articles having seen Miriam’s post!
I concur with Miriam … that was funny, especially on the heels of a friend telling me he thought the Da Vinci Code was a fantastic novel (seriously).
Hope you’re having good re-writing. Glad you’re still in the land of the living.
Cool stuff. But, if they were paying me not to f-up, I’d never get paid. :)
I do like the sound of all that money going to a writer, though. About time.
And Robert Altman is more an inspiration than ever!
Dude
Tell me(us) this rewrite is near completion…it’s taking forever, no?
Will,
Yeah, on ONE HAND, you could say that it’s taking forever. But then, when you go to the theater and watch the current batch of films, you keep remembering WHY you’re taking the time to get it right…
And a very good line I learned from Clive over at $1000 Spielberg that I use quite often now is…
“DO YOU WANT IT RIGHT OR DO YOU WANT IT RIGHT NOW?”
So far, it seems to keep working for me… LOL.

Right is good…I guess I’m too used to tv where they want it RIGHT NOW. I’ve written 3 half hours and rewritten 2 other half hours in the past two months and 4 of the 5 have been shot already. But I know, thats tv.
