In 2003, Jim Jannard, Founder of ultra-stylish sunglasses-and-accessory maker, Oakley, was rated #229 on Forbes 400 World’s Richest List… That means he’s got a few million to throw around…
Some of the posted stats on the upcoming RED camera include…
* 4K. True S35MM size image sensor 4520 x 2540 pixels.
* Variable frame rates from 1fps all the way up to 60fps.
* Output full RAW uncompressed 4:4:4, 4:2:2 HiDef video.
* Ability to use their lenses or your own set of prime lenses.
Jim’s plan is to have working cameras for sale by the end of the year… Available to both studio productions as well as Independents. The rumor mill says that the camera will be “affordable” for even Indies…
If indeed Jim can deliver, the RED camera promises high production value for a reasonable amount of moolah.
So you just might want to hold off on any new HiDef camera purchase until we see what Jim does in fact deliver…
